Reconstruction and Equipment of the Technical–Economic Block of the University Clinical Center of the Republic of Srpska (Phase I)

Project details

The project involves the reconstruction and equipping of the Technical–Economic Block of the University Clinical Center of the Republic of Srpska in Banja Luka, with a primary focus on thermotechnical systems. Within the first phase of works, one steam boiler with a capacity of 6 t/h and two hot-water boilers of 8,000 kW each were installed, along with three air-cooled chillers (each 870 kW) — two serving the Central Medical Block and one the Technical–Economic Block. Additionally, two air handling units with a total capacity of 77,000 m³/h were installed to support the facility’s kitchen operations.

The project’s technical concept ensures a high level of operational efficiency and flexibility. The installed systems are equipped with modern Low-NOx burners that minimize nitrogen oxide emissions, while dual-fuel (gas/fuel oil) burners with power modulation enhance energy efficiency and adaptability. All major subsystems — including boilers, pumps, chillers, and exchangers — are connected to a Building Management System (BMS), enabling remote monitoring and control for optimized performance and maintenance.

IEE was responsible for the design, construction, and installation of the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, including automation and control. Despite tight deadlines caused by delays in earlier construction phases, the project was successfully completed through parallel execution of multiple work phases and close coordination between civil, mechanical, and electrical teams. The reconstruction significantly improved the energy capacity, reliability, and efficiency of the heating and cooling system of UKC Banja Luka, resulting in reduced emissions, lower fuel consumption, and long-term economic benefits for the investor.
